Eindhoven Airport is the first airport in the Benelux to obtain the highest level of the Airport Carbon Accreditation.
The ‘Airport Carbon Accreditation’ programme audits and acknowledges the efforts made by participating airports to manage and reduce CO2 emissions. The programme consists of four levels that can each individually be rewarded with a Certificate: Mapping, Reduction, Optimisation & Neutrality. Eindhoven Airport now successfully reached the highest level, ‘Neutrality’. This means that Eindhoven Airport has performed its own airport processes in a carbon-neutral manner by compensating for its own residual emissions.
The first level, ‘Mapping’, consists of identifying and listing the carbon footprint of the airports own processes. The next level that Eindhoven Airport focused on was ‘Reduction’, which consists of proving the reduction of CO2 emissions. The third level, 'Optimisation', is involving partner companies at the airport in the reduction of CO2 emissions. 'Neutrality' is the final level.
This means that Eindhoven Airport is well ahead of the agreements made previously at the Alderstafel (Alders round table) to achieve the highest level of the ‘Airport Carbon Accreditation’.
Joost Meijs, Managing Director of Eindhoven Airport: “Eindhoven Airport has the ambition to be one of the leading European airports in terms of sustainability. Airport Carbon Accreditation helps Eindhoven Airport realise this ambition.”
Olivier Jankovec, Director General ACI EUROPE: " Eindhoven Airport has been striving for carbon neutrality for a while and it's great to see them achieve it today and become the very first carbon neutral airport in the Benelux and the 15th in the world. In becoming certified at the 'Neutrality' level of Airport Carbon Accreditation, Eindhoven is clearly setting an example of the proactive business culture that values the positive externalities and efficiences that stem from this achievement. Congratulations to all the team there on their hard work."
