From Eindhoven to Rhodos

Rhodos

Relaxed Rhodes

Both the summers and the beaches are long and pleasant. The sun shines abundantly and creates the right atmosphere to unwind. In Rhodes, relaxation has many faces.

Sunny entertainment

Most holidaymakers stay in one of the seaside resorts of Faliraki, Ixia or Trianda. They are all fine destinations for sunny entertainment, water sports and cosy drinks. Rhodes Town is popular as well. The centre appears medieval, the fortress walls invite for a walk and the harbour has many cosy taverns. The nightlife is well developed here, especially around Bar Street Orfanidou.

Butterfly valley

Rhodes is a hilly island with many meadows, pine forests and orchards with olive and apricot trees. Jasmine trees ensure that butterflies feel at home. Especially in Petaloudes – the valley of butterflies – these happy flutterers are omnipresent, particularly in July and August.

More natural beauty can be found at the Thermal Springs of Kallithéa, a spa from the previous century that was built by Italians. The sulphurous spring water was believed to be medicinal. Various films were recorded here, such as The Guns of Navarone and Zorba the Greek.

Wonderful

In times long past, Rhodes was home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Colossus of Rhodes, a bronze statue, 33 meters high, of the Greek god Helios. The Colossus kept watch over the harbour of Rhodes until an earthquake destroyed the statue. This ‘wonder of the world’ is no more, but Rhodes remains a wonderful destination.
