Passport and ticket control

All passengers are subject to a security check before departure. When travelling between Schengen countries (Holland, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Danmark, Norway, Iceland, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Czech Republic) the passport control will normally not occur. However, each passenger is obliged to carry a valid passport or an European Identity document.

Security check

  • Your ticket will be checked at the same time that you as a passenger and your hand baggage are screened.
  • You must place your hand baggage on the conveyor belt through the X-ray equipment.
  • The hand baggage is X-rayed here without causing damage to, for example, light-sensitive film, computer discs or laptops.
  • You can then place your keys, coins, mobile telephone etc. in the appropriate containers before you pass through the metal-detector arch.
  • Should the alarm sound on the metal-detector arch then a security officer will search you to discover which item has triggered the alarm. You must follow the security officer's instructions at all times.

Note: What kind of things are you and are you not allowed to take with you in your hand luggage or hold baggage? You will find a comprehensive overview of the rules and regulations with 'Security rules'.

Travel documents

Is your passport still valid for the period of your journey? Do you have the required visas? Obtaining a visa or renewing a passport can take some time, so please make sure you have what you need before departure. Your airline or travel agent can advise you.
Do you need extra photos? In the main hall is a photo automatic at your disposal.

Unable to comply? Then, in exceptional circumstances and on strict conditions, you can apply to the Koninklijke Marechaussee's [Royal Netherlands Military Constabulary] Emergency Travel Document Office for an emergency travel document. Whether or not you are eligible for an emergency travel document will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Before travelling to the airport with an expired Dutch passport, first read all of the conditions that you must be able to satisfy on request (see the link below). This also shows:

  • the cost of the emergency travel document
  • the location of the Emergency Travel Document Office
  • the Koninklijke Marechaussee information number for emergency travel documents.
